  1. Introduction
  2.  
  3.    Welcome to Conquest!  This is a strategy game similar to RISK,
  4. and other 'Conquer the World' type games.  It has many options to
  5. make the game more interesting, but you may want to wait until after
  6. you have played a few games before you try them.  One of my design
  7. objectives was to create a simple user interface which removes
  8. unnecessary keystrokes, and leaves as much room on the screen as
  9. possible for the game map.  As a result, EGA and a mouse or trackball
  10. are required to play Conquest.  For information on how to play the
  11. game, either run the game and use the built in help screens, or read
  12. the file 'Guide.doc.'  Write me a note if I can be of help.

  14. Features of Conquest Version 2.0:
  15.  
  16. 1.  This version of Conquest has a new option, 'max new armies per
  17. turn', that limits the number of new armies a player can receive
  18. during a turn.  This can greatly increase the length of game play on
  19. large maps (over 1,000 turns - yes, the save game option works).

  21. 2.  Another new option is 'random player order'.  If this option is
  22. enabled, the order of players for each round is different.  Players
  23. still get only one turn per roundm, however they do not know when
  24. they will get it.

  26. 3.  A new player 'favors attacking' selection has been added: vengeance.
  27. If this selection is chosen for a computer player, then that player
  28. will tend to attack the players who attack him the most.

  30. 4.  A map designing contest has been started (with $250.00 in prizes).

  33. 5.  The screen can be turned off during game play by pressing the 'F8'
  34. function key.
